March 30 to April 5, 2010
Dear Friends,
Easter is upon us and as Lent comes to a close it's not a moment too soon! The calendar for April is exploding with events and here at NOLAlicious, we're adjusting to the seemingly boundless energy and go-go-gaga spirit of New Orleanians. We hear it'll soon be too hot to want to do anything, so get out there and explore! This past week's highlights went way beyond the newsletter to include the Easter Keg Hunt sponsored by NOLA brewing, the RoadFood Festival on Royal Street, seeing the Super Sunday Mardi Gras Indians (rescheduled from last weekend) and enjoying a nice Friday lunch in the courtyard of Cafe Amelie in the French Quarter.
What's on your list for this upcoming week? Our Facebook and Twitter communities continue to grow along with the newsletter so leave a comment, tweet us your activities and share in the discovery of new nooks and crannies around town.
New to the newsletter this week you'll see one additional section, a literary pick. In upcoming issues we'll be adding musical selections or movies of interest. Hope you continue to enjoy the changes. Feedback is always welcome and remember you can email us at editor@nolalicious.com. And don't forget, if you like what you see, please forward to a friend (or 5) so they can share in the NOLAliciousness.
Wishing you a terrific April,
Wishing you a happy spring,
Carl, Taylor and Sloane
P.S. The New Orleans Hornets recently surveyed college students and wouldn't you know it, one of their questions about where you receive information about New Orleans features NOLAlicious!
P.S.S. Thank you for the logo submissions! Stay tuned next Monday for voting insructions on the website.
NOLAlicious Picks
DO This weekend's Crescent City Classic will be another first for 2/3's of NOLAlicious. The 10k starts in the French Quarter and ends with beer and grub at City Park. From the serious runner to the family looking to take their time and enjoy the walk up Esplanade Avenue, CCC is a great Saturday before Easter activity. Follow them on Twitter at CCC10k and look for us on the race route! Registration online is closed, but you can register in person for $30 at any of these locations.
GO The 5th annual "Jammin on Julia" art walk is free and happening this Saturday night from 6 PM to 9 PM. Is there a better opportunity to wander and roam around Julia Street (from S. Peters to St. Charles), while eating and drinking along the way, listening to live music and seeing all of the galeries, open in all their glory? This year's theme highlights the growing Latin community and their influence on local culture and art. Food and beverages cost extra and are provided by 10 local restaurants.
EAT New Orleans isn't just about crawfish and creole cuisine. Whether you're in the mood for a classic pad thai or are looking for a weekly special that is sure to tease your tastebuds, Sukho Thai is a great choice for Thai food in the Crescent City. Our advice: get the Shrimp Satay and the Seafood Clay Pot. Lunch Tue-Fri 11:30 AM to 2 PM. Dinner Tue-Sun 5:30 PM to 10 PM. Avg. dinner per person $15-$25.
LAGNIAPPE Make New Orleans Home is a local nonprofit aimed at attracting people to live in New Orleans and welcoming them once they get here. They are hosting a movie night for newcomers, showing "King Creole" (featuring Elvis) next Tuesday night at 6:30 PM at the Prytania Theatre. Tickets are $15 and all proceeds go to Make New Orleans Home. (Prytania Theater, 5339 Prytania Street)
