January 19-25, 2010
Dear Friends,
The second edition of NOLAlicious is here! It's been an exciting week. The Saints are headed to the NFC championship game, the mayoral race is heating up and the countdown for Mardi Gras is on. What's three newcomers to do but continue to turn over stones and see what comes up? Last week, we danced, saw live jazz and listened to Chris Brogan talk about connecting with people online and off. The biggest lesson we learned from last week? Keep connecting. And to do that with you, our NOLAlicious family, we're making some slight changes to the newsletter and format.
We're making the newsletter more visual. A big part of who we are is taking pictures and so we're going to include some of our favorites from week-to-week to share with you. Soon, we're going to add the ability for you to post photos of your own to our Tumblr, so stay tuned! Next, you'll also see a link at the top that says "Forward to a Friend". We're asking that if you like what we're up to and the types of events we're featuring on NOLAlicious that you forward the newsletter to 5 friends and tell them about it.
Last, we've created the hashtag #NOLAtips as a place to keep all of your favorite to-dos around town. So if you're on Twitter let us know what your #NOLAtips are - then you can visit the NOLAlicious site where we're highlighting those tweets on the homepage.
Proud to call New Orleans home,
Carl, Sloane and Taylor
P.S. Looking for more ways to connect? Check out our Tumblr where we post photos from around town. Follow NOLAlicious on Twitter to stay tuned to up-to-the-minute events and discounts in New Orleans. Become a Fan on Facebook to connect with others in the NOLAlicious community.

Community Cinema
Community Cinema offers free monthly screenings that pair independently produced documentary films with organizations dealing with those same issues. This month's film Garbage Dreams by Mai Iskander tells the story of three boys living in a garbage dump in Cairo, Egypt and forced to make a living for their family. Guest speakers from The Green Project, Strike It Green, Phoenix Recycling and Charitable Film Network will continue on the topic after the film screening. With mounting pressure on the mayoral candidates to implement recycling in New Orleans, this event should spur interesting conversation. Samuel DuBois Cook Fine Arts Center at Dillard University, 2601 Gentilly Boulevard. FREE (Saturday, 6:00 PM)
- Mayors Unite! Foursquare Street Up. Capedeville, 555 Capdeville Street New Orleans. FREE (Friday, 7:00 PM - 10:00 PM)
- Dueling Parties for Kristin Palmer (City Council District C candidate). Three bands, two venues, one candidate. Cafe Negril & Spotted Cat. FREE (Thursday, 7:00 PM - 11:00 PM)

WHO DAT!
Options for next Sunday rely heavily on the Saints taking on the Vikings in the NFC Championship game. Prytania Theater has announced that they'll be showing the game on the big screen. If you're not going to be at the game, what better way to watch the game? Plus we've been dying to go to Prytania Theater and this is the perfect excuse to put it on our calendar. Still working on new superstitions and traditions, but we'll be wearing our Fleurty Girl #whodat T-shirts. It's a start. Prytania Theater (Sunday 6:30 PM kickoff)

The "Taste of New Orleans"
... At Upperline Restaurant doesn't just have to be just for out-of-town guests. For $38.50, you can enjoy 7 different tastes from their menu. First a trio of soups (turtle, gumbo and etouffee), next a sampling of fried green tomatoes, roast duck and spicy shrimp and to finish a choice between their warm bread pudding or pecan pie. A neighborhood restaurant, you'll most likely get a table visit from the owner ensuring your visit was everything you'd hoped and don't miss taking a walk around the restaurant where each inch of wall space is filled with paintings and photographs from local artists. (1413 Upperline Street, New Orleans, LA 70115)
- Cocktail Party Fundraiser at Zoe Lounge in the W Hotel to benefit Save Our Schools NOLA's "Finding Our Voices" Student Workshop Series. $7 ticket = the cost to sponsor one student for a workshop (Wednesday, 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM)

Anders Osborne
Anders Osborne is a mainstay on the local music scene. But one place we heard was a must to see him is at his residency at Chickie Wah Wah on Tuesday nights. He's joined by John Fohl, Johnny Sansone and the show kicks off at 8pm at this mid-city haunt. We've heard the shows may or may not start on time, but that we should arrive on time to grab a seat. Sounds like a plan. (Tuesday, 8:00 PM - Until)
