Pre-game Ceremony to be held prior to game on Thursday, February 11th

For Immediate Release
Monday, February 8, 2010

Calgary, AB – Calgary Flames forwards Jarome Iginla and Daymond Langkow each played in their 1000th regular season NHL game last Friday and Saturday respectively.

Iginla and Langkow will be honoured in a pre-game ceremony prior to the Thursday, February 11th game against the Dallas Stars. Game time is 7:30 pm and will be broadcast live on Flames Pay-Per-View and the FAN 960.

Flames captain Jarome Iginla is just the 43rd player in NHL history to play 1000 games with the same franchise. Iginla, originally drafted by the Dallas Stars in the first round (11th overall in 1995) was acquired by Calgary along with Corey Millen in exchange for Joe Nieuwendyk on December 19, 1995. Jarome has been the Flames captain since 2003 and is the Flames all-time leader in games played (1,001), points (903), goals (433) and second in assists (470).

" A big part of achieving this milestone has to do with the people that helped you along the way,” said Iginla. “To have family, friends and the fans join Daymond and I on Thursday will be a special evening for us both. It’s exciting that we can celebrate it together.”

Daymond Langkow, an alternate captain with Calgary, joined the Flames on August 26, 2004 from Phoenix in exchange for Denis Gauthier and Oleg Saprykin. Langkow started his career with the Tampa Bay Lightning in 1995-96 after being drafted in first round (5th overall in 1995) by the Lightning. Langkow has amassed 256 goals and 380 assists for 636 points. Calgary is Langkow’s fourth team after spending time with Tampa (1995-99), Philadelphia (1998-01) and Phoenix (2001-04).

“It’s unique that both Jarome and I reached this milestone at the same time,” said Langkow. “Especially since we have such a long history together, going back to our minor hockey days in Alberta. I’m honored that we can also share our celebration with the fans on the same night at the Saddledome.”
