Be the Change $10,000 Challenge
"Be the change you seek in your world." —Gandhi

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It is also our birthday month! Founded one year ago, Pink Initiative is a community of like-minded wedding professionals passionate about funding a cure for breast cancer.

During our first twelve months, Pink Initiative’s board of directors and our growing group of vendor sponsors have taken our message to heart proudly displaying our logo on websites and blogs, spreading our message on Twitter, and kindly giving more than $7,000 thus far.

But that’s not all. Vendor sponsors are taking it upon themselves to ignite change and have even further impact:

• Chicago wedding coordinator Ali Phillips of Engaging Events by Ali joined forces with the Midwest Wedding & Event Professionals to host a charity golf tournament, Swing for a Cure, to benefit Pink Initiative in August, raising over $2300.

• Photographer Amy Gaerthofner of Ardent Photography is hosting a boudoir portrait series in the Milwaukee area in October, and Pink Initiative founder Emilie Sommer of emilie inc. is traveling the east coast photographing portraits, both with proceeds donated to Pink Initiative.
• Online stationery source Invitation Consultants has designed three bridal shower invitations to benefit Pink Initiative.

• We have received word from other vendor sponsors in the process of planning their own upcoming events to benefit Pink Initiative including workshops and walks, paper products and trendy totes. Watch the blog for updates on these exciting efforts.

This October, we challenge YOU to join our efforts and create an event that initiates positive change to help the 1 in 8 women who will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime, and the 1 in 100 men. Together, let’s raise $10,000 next month!!

Not sure how to start? Use the above examples for inspiration and think pink. You could host a pink wedding cake & tea party in your area, a Boobies for Boudoir portrait party or donate a planning or make-up consultation. Create a pink product all your own. Get creative! Share a percentage of your income for the month, quarter, or year to Pink Initiative. Brainstorm an event or product that best suits your business, and then announce on your blog and send an e-newsletter to your address book. Let us know, too, and we will post on our blog as well. Funds raised on your own may be submitted to Pink Initiative by check (PO Box 2703, South Portland, ME 04116) or via PayPal (payments to info@pinkinitiative.org).

Or, let us help you get started! We have partnered with givezooks!, an online one-stop fundraising marketplace where you can easily create a webpage for your grassroots event to share with your friends, family and colleagues to drum up support, collect and track your donations directly. Check out Pink Initiative board member Kelsie Knight’s page below that she created for a marathon she is running to raise money for PI (click snapshot below to enlarge).

Kelsie says:
"Grassroots fundraising with giveZooks is easy and effective. Setting up my fundraiser was seamless and intuitive. Givezooks also saves me time and effort by sending thank-you emails to donors and notifies me of individual donations via automatic email updates. They provide easy-to-use links & badges for promotion and outreach for social networking sites, too!"

Thank you all for your kindness and generosity. Please keep us posted on your progress, and let us know how we can help.

Cheers to a big October, and cheers for a cure!!
