Needing trees pruned?
Council takes great pride in managing and maintaining its trees in a safe and sustainable manner and we trust that tenants will help us to keep our City looking beautiful.

Should tree works be required at your club or the surrounding area, permission must be obtained from Councils Parks and Gardens Department. Contack Karen who will arrange for Parks and Gardens to carry out an inspection and undertake any required tasks by either a suitably qualified contractor or council officers. Minor pruning to shrubs is the responsibility of tenants, but for trees works the club must contact council. Some trees are protected by our Tree Protection Local Law 1F, including significant trees and canopy trees which require a permit for pruning or removal.

If you are unsure, please check with Council before doing anything. Should you wish to submit a request please contact Karen Kwok

Council contact person - reminder
The City of Boroondara’s preferred position is to have only one contact at each club.  This contact person can be nominated by the club; however it is recommended that it be either the current serving secretary or president.

  • To pass on relevant information to committee members
  • To email the Leisure Services Officer any relevant grant/ funding requests or submissions
  • To notify Leisure Services of any proposals to undertake works, including fixed structures, building or facility works etc
  • To complete annual council reporting requirements as per lease agreements (refer to column on right for further information)

Please ensure that you notify Leisure Services and update the Community Information System (CIS) should the contact person change following your AGM.

Two fantastic community sport initiatives...

TEM Hockey Club - cancer awareness round
In 2009, Toorak East Malvern (TEM) hockey club's family was rocked by cancer with two life members diagnosed with breast cancer.  To honour the life members and all of those touched by cancer they organised a Breast Cancer Awareness Round, which has become an annual event.

"We want to raise awareness and get a point across to our sporting community. Even though we are fit, we are active, and we are healthy, cancer touches us too." Nicky Pitcher

On Saturday the 27 August, the TEM cancer awareness round was dedicated to raising awareness of cancer in its various forms and to encourage men and women to ‘check here or there and be aware'. There were many things to buy, including key rings, wrist bands, t-shirts, famous boob-shaped cupcakes, and a barbeque. All proceeds were split between the National Breast Cancer Foundation and the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.

Well done to TEMS for such a fantastic initiative!

Camberwell Hockey Club's - synthetic surface recycled
Camberwell Hockey Club's old synthetic turf has been recycled!

One of Camberwell Hockey Club's players, Lynette, was on camp with some school students at the Blackwood Special School's Outdoor Education Camp. Guess where CHC's old pitch surface has ended up?! It has a new life as the surface at the Archery Centre.

Fantastic idea, very environmentally friendly!

New Equal Opportunity Act 2010
On 1 August 2011, the new Equal Opportunity Act 2010 came into force, affecting all employees and volunteers conducting paid and unpaid work across Victoria.  The new Victorian law about sexual harassment extends to include volunteers.  Organisations will now have a new responsibility under this law to make it clear to their volunteers that sexual harassment is not acceptable in any form.  This means that volunteers are protected from harassment, but also that volunteers must abide by the law and not sexually harass others.

To assist volunteers to understand their rights under the new Act, a short information pack is available: Volunteering Victoria
