Spotlight on TWR Broadcasting Partner Thru the Bible In 1975, Dr. J. Vernon McGee, the founder of Thru the Bible (TTB), and Dr. Paul Freed, TWR’s founder, collaborated in an effort to maximize the spread of the gospel. Thru the Bible is a 30-minute verse-by-verse Bible study radio program that takes listeners through the entire Bible in five years. This Bible study program has been aired on radio stations in the U.S. since 1967, and it is now being aired in over 200 countries around the globe. In this strategic ministry partnership, TTB provides the whole Word, while TWR translates and transmits it across the world. Now you can discover even more about TTB on TWR’s homepage this month. Mbennah as its new International Director for Africa. Hailing from Tanzania, Dr. Mbennah succeeds the Rev. Stephen Boakye-Yiadom, who passed away in June 2007. Mbennah will begin his new role on April 1. “Dr. Mbennah is eminently qualified to lead the ministry of TWR Africa, and we’re excited to have him on board,” says TWR President/CEO Lauren Libby. “He brings a tremendous blend of spiritual leadership and maturity as well as the strategic ability to develop mission.” Mbennah’s extensive academic resume includes a postgraduate degree in Biblical Studies and a Ph.D. in Communications from Potchefstroom University in South Africa. He also earned a Master’s in Communications from Wheaton College in Wheaton, Ill., as well as a B.A. in Communication Arts from Messiah College in Grantham, Penn. Mbennah accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior on June 15, 1975, when he was 16 years old. He and his wife, Ruth, have four children. Messages of Faith and Hope in Cuba Earlier this month, TWR broadcast the first program in a new series titled Messages of Faith and Hope. It’s the first program to be produced in Cuba and broadcast via TWR back to the island nation. A five-minute program aired daily at 8:30 p.m., the broadcast is designed to engage listeners with real-life topics and introduce the foundations for an evangelical Christian worldview. The broadcast is significant because Christian radio inside Cuba is a rarity. Occasionally ecumenical programs air during Christmas and Easter, but Messages of Faith and Hope is a true stepping stone toward steady biblical teaching in Cuba. Though the program has only been on the air a short while, listener response is high. One woman wrote: Greetings. Yesterday I heard your program for the first time. I liked it a lot. I very much like to hear the Word of God. I read the Bible a lot and I will say that to live one must have a lot of faith. What do I have to do to become one of your admirers? Please pray for those involved in producing this wonderful program and that lives will be touched with God’s infinite grace and mercy. God Remembers Me…A Letter from Asia TWR recently received this letter from a listener in Asia: Dear TWR, I once prayed for the Lord to not forget people like us who are suffering and, in particular, not to forget me. I kept wondering when my troubles would flee from me and who would have mercy on me, a woman of suffering? God heard my cries and brought good-hearted people like you to help me. Not only do I want to thank you, but I also want to thank God for His grace. Psalm 106 says, ‘Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever.’ Because we have learned God’s words, we are to bless others. God has proven to me that He remembers and cares for me by causing His love to flow from you into our lives. From your gesture, I am even more convicted to use the remaining days of my life to praise the Lord, to fight my HIV/AIDS and to live on well, so as to praise His name, declare His salvation and speak of His glory. If not for the grace of God, I would not have the ability to take care of the elderly and young ones at home while fighting this sickness. God is the one who takes care of me and has mercy on me. My sincere thanks to you, good-hearted ones. |
