Today we took that long drive down the Nepean Highway to the stronghold known as Gerry Green Reserve. It has been at times over the years a "house of pain" for our club, often meeting the Parkdale boys in a must win encounter, late in the season. We lost Phil Bennett (virus), Luke Kelly (flu), Jack Le Cerf (corked hip) & Sam Killworth (broken bone) from our triumphant Round 15 team, which allowed us to promote Chris Bell out of the Under 19s, Andrew Romanin, after a couple of strong outings in the Reserves, Stephen Romanin returned from injury and James "The Chiz" Robinson received a late call up to the ones after Luke Kelly's late withdrawal. After what could be loosely described as a lacklustre first half, where the margin between the two teams was 14 points, Parkdale scored the first goal of the third quarter to reduce the margin to 8 points. At this point the Wellers machine kicked into gear and proceeded to break the shackles of the opposition. From then on it became a virtual procession of goals, of particular note was the fact that the majority of our goals were being scored by our mid fielders, pushing forward, and our small forwards. The end result, an 89 point margin in our favour was good news on a couple of fronts. It was our first 20+ goals scoreline, the largest winning margin, and the biggest spread of goal scorers. We were also able to confirm the fact the we will be participating in this year's finals which is tremendous news for our club, having now overcome the disappointment of last season, where we were relgated from B Grade. The plucky Vultures team never gave up on the challenge but in the end the youth & pace of the Old Camberwell team was the difference between the two teams. Better Players were Andrew Clarke, Mitch Hough, Dan Morley, Caine Hillier, Jack Duke & Simon Bonyhady

Reserve
In an eventful 24 hours leading up to the start of the Reserves game this week we first gained then lost Luke Kelly to the First 18, lost then gained Adam Goldblatt from the firsts, included then lost James Robinson to the firsts and lost Jarod Collins and Will Robinson to unavailability. With Andrew Hudson now swung off the Emergency list, the selectors in a surprise move decided to include our hard working “Physio” – Alex Beveridge to play his first ever Reserves match. This late inclusion seemed to please the army of “Bevo” supporters in the crowd. Our first quarter started badly with the home team kicking the first goal however, from there on, with Jon Derry controlling the Ruck, by the end of the period Old Camberwell were leading 6gls 8 bhs to Parkdale 1goal straight. Our centre line of the Cottrell brothers and Peter Storey was dominating proceedings and Alex McKenzie and Ben Craven (playing his first game with the Reserves) held sway in the backline. Nick Searles threaded the eye through a needle to score a fantastic goal and our resident lunatic Matt Decarne attacked the ball with his usual vigour. A 5 goal second quarter from Old Camberwell while restricting Parkdale to one more goal set us up for the opportunity to score a big percentage boosting win. Up forward Alister Lloyd was running the Parkdale defenders a merry dance and on the ball Andrew Hudson was relishing the opportunity to show his talent. In defense Brad Dean was showing great discipline and provided plenty of rebound. During the second quarter “Bevo” made his long awaited debut and his first attack on the ball left a number of casualties including his own team mates !! We started the second half with only 20 players due to Dom La Fontaine receiving a mild concussion during the second quarter. Enquiries to Dom on what day it was and who drove down to the ground with him were followed by a blank stare and the medical staff quickly brought an end to proceedings. Albeit the Coach was used to a blank stare from Dom we agreed with the medical staff and rested him for the remainder of the game. With a dominant midfield and the opportunity to try Ben Craven up forward the Reserves then set about scoring 16 goals to Parkdales 1 goal during the second half. Jon Derry playing in his 100th game was like a young buck and took a couple of great marks. Also enjoying his 100th appearance for the club was Brett Cottrell who finished the game with 3 goals and Alister Lloyd continued his dominance and finished the day with 5 goals. In a moment of madness the Coach moved Steve Warr to full forward during the last quarter however his one shot for goal will ensure this does not happen again. Final scores were Old Camberwell 27 gls 19 bhs to Parkdale 3 gls 2 bhs This week we are again away from home, this time to Beaumaris and we look forward to continuing the Reserves “Month of Revenge”
