Day 26 – Czech Republic

Cross-pollination – or missionaries assisting one another in a region – led veteran missionaries Rev. and Mrs. Ron Barnes to change fields after having made a few trips to help, teach and encourage those in the Czech Republic.

An ongoing relationship with the Czech Republic revealed the country has only 28 pastors for its 38 Baptist churches, and no Czech-speaking Baptist seminary to train future pastors. For these reasons and many more, the Barnes felt directed by God to go to the Czech Republic and begin focusing on a church-planting movement.

Since their arrival, they have partnered with the church in Ceske Budejovice, as well as helped to develop the Biblical Theological Seminary, which just graduated its first six students. They have also begun a partnership with a Czech university ministry to help assist in their outreaches.

Prayer Requests

Jennifer Thigpen – prefield

Jennifer is engaged to ABWE missionary Todd Janes (prefield – Cambodia).
Pray for them as they make decisions regarding their missionary service as a couple.

Melissa Wells – prefield

Pray for Melissa as she begins her prefield ministry.
She has some initial decisions to make about where to study language and begin ministry.

Steve and Cari Wendel

Pray for ongoing language acquisition for both Steve and Cari and the kids (Erica, 8; Claire, 7; Elisha, 5; Gavin, 3; Adelaide, 16 months; Jonas, 3 months)
The Wendels have begun teaching English classes. Pray that both spiritual fruit and an increased influence in the community would result from these classes.
Pray for their transportation situation, as their van has cost more than $9,000 in repairs since returning to the field in June.
Pray for God's guidance as they navigate new visa laws, and as they will need to form a non-profit organization to allow additional team members to join them in the Czech Republic.
Pray that God would call more laborers to the harvest in the Czech Republic.
