Tip#4: Know PowerPoint Shortcuts I wrote in Tip #2 that the last thing you should do when writing a speech is to open PowerPoint. That's because you should initially focus on your audience, and their needs, and only turn to PowerPoint once you know how you want to enhance that message with visuals.
When you are using PowerPoint you will at some stage want the audience to stop looking at the slide, and draw their attention at you instead. This can be done by inserting a blank screen, but it's easier to use one of the PowerPoint Shortcuts.
At any stage in a presentation, typing the letter B, will bring you to a black screen. To get back to the presentation, type the letter B again. If you want a white screen instead, the letter W works the same way.
You can also go to any slide in a presentation by typing that slide's number and pressing enter - great if you want to go back or forward to any particular slide. These options are also available if you right-click on the mouse.
