I feel as we more then ever should work hard on giving back to our self to keep feeling beautiful , and looking beautiful, with lots of energy, and happiness, here are some secrets of how to keep waterfall of vitality flowing our way:
Words of Wisdom from my friend Mark Mincolla, acclaimed nutritional therapist & holistic practitioner
Summer is coming and we all want to be at the peak of our health and energy levels. Moreover, we want our vibrant health and energy to radiate through our appearance. The keys to making this a reality are: #1. 7 hours of sleep each night, #2. 60-plus ounces of water and 3. 8 servings of fruits and vegetables per day. In order to radiate health and energy, we must recover fully from the stress hormones produced each day by following nature's plan. Her plan is to get 7 hours of REM (rapid eye movement sleep) each night. Science has discovered that REM sleep for 7 hours is the most efficient way to offset the wear and tear of stress hormones. For a little assistance in the matter, I suggest 1 tsp of Natural Calm Magnesium Citrate powder in 4 oz. water before bed. The water, fruits and vegetables have the very same stress neutralizing and re-vitalizing effect by increasing the potassium and polyphenol (powerful antioxidant) levels in the blood and tissues. Berries are especially revitalizing as the have the highest level of polyphenols. Want to look and feel your best for the summer? Get plenty of sound sleep, pure water, fresh berries and green vegetables! Happy and healthy summer to you!

Summer Eats
Join As warm days draw near, we start to make summer associations … hot days, beautiful, flowing hair, short sleeve dresses, going barefoot days, sitting by the water sipping fresh Mohitos, eating watermelon and Feta cheese salad. Here’s a favorite recipe that Melissa Robin & I love:
Watermelon Salad
. 1 3/4 cup halved, thinly sliced red onion
. 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
. 1 1/2 quarts seeded, cubed watermelon
. 3/4 cup crumbled feta cheese
. 1/2 cup pitted black olive halves
. 1 cup chopped fresh mint
. Mix together and serve with your favorite grilled dish and summer drink
Summer Beauty
Balayage is perfect for summer! Balayage is a gorgeous color technique that produces the most natural-looking highlights. Think Gisele’s sun-kissed waves. Balayage means “to sweep” in French. At Maxime, Balayage is known as “flying colors,” for the method in which the color is artistically hand-painted and swept as it flies from root to tip mimicking the way hair is naturally lightened by the sun. Balayage treatments at Maxime begin at $130 and take a little over an hour (compared to 2+ hours for most color services). Book a color appointment in May and receive a Maxime Hair Facial for only $25 (usually $40). Our hair facial is a great way to exfoliate your hair before new color is applied. It cleanses and restores shine and elasticity.
Hair cuts this season are high in volume. Straight hair is being enhanced with lots of layers and volume. Summer cuts are often short and sassy. Our signature cuts – “Rona” and “Lulu” and, of course, our “Em” bob, the Posh cut, are awesome styles for summer.
b.yoffi’s new summer eye shadows and lipsticks are in. The palette of colors is sexy and fresh. A must-have for the summer season is b.yoffi’s mineral sheer tint SPF 20 (hypoallergenic; for all skin types). Clinically formulated to multi-task as a foundation, sunscreen and antioxidant lotion, this ultra-sheer crème features an extra boost - our multi-mineral complex of magnesium, potassium, sodium, zinc, lysine, ginkgo biloba, ginseng and Vitamins A & E, plus it protects against free radical damage all while moisturizing the skin. It glides on effortlessly to create a water-resistant veil of natural-looking coverage.
Weekend in Portland.jpg)
I recently spent two days in Portland, Maine with my very good friend, Katie, who is getting married to the nicest guy, Ben. Molly, her sister, organized a great bachelorette weekend. We stayed at The Regency in downtown Portland ( www.theregency.com ), right in the heart of all the action – boutiques, bars and restaurants ( www.forestreet.biz , www.walterscafe.com ). It was a fantastic weekend – great food, fun shopping, cushy hotel and good yoga. Best of all, I met some new friends and am looking forward to dancing like crazy at Katie’s wedding.
Tracking MFH
Last month, we launched our partnership with Medicines for Humanity www.medicinesforhumanity.org. We have committed to donating .75 from every service provided at the salon. To date, we’ve raised $1,900.00, which will help save 475 at-risk children. A big thank to our customers – with your loyalty, we will continue raising money for MFH. We can also facilitate additional donations that customers might be interested in making. We will keep you posted on our progress and work with MFH. I am traveling to Guatemala May 12-16 to visit the MFH center and Guatemalan children. This will surely be an eye-opening journey. I’ll look forward to sharing details of the trip in the June newsletter.
