Hawaii bans shark fin - thanks Stef!

There is hope. Hawaii recently made a historic decision, and at the heart of that decision was the personal power of one. Months ago, Stefanie Brendle decided to help sharks in a real, concrete and measurable way. She decided to get the government to create a law that banned the shark trade in Hawaii.

So the journey began, getting Stephanie to mobilize people from around the world, including people at Shark Rescue and our supporters to lobby the Hawaiian Senators. After months of struggle, and moments of fearing the collapse of the initiative due to pro-shark interests, Hawaiian Governor Linda Lingle on Friday signed a bill prohibiting the possession, sale or distribution of shark fins. The bill passed the state House and Senate with broad support earlier this year.

A true shark champion, find out more about Stefanie. Read more about Hawaii's landmark law to ban the sale of shark here:

Support our Desert sharkies!

In just 3 more weeks, Delian Gaskell and Denvy Lo will compete in the Racing the Planet Gobi Desert March - to save sharks! Crossing 250km by foot in 40°C heat, carrying all their food, bedding and other gear, our two champions will run, hike and maybe even crawl across one of the world's hottest, most remote places on earth in support of sharks.

Raising funds through Just Giving, proceeds will help both the UK-based Shark and Coral Conservation Trust and Shark Rescue. SCCT will use the funds to protect shark habitats, and Shark Rescue will use the funds in our campaign to support Palau's shark sanctuary, and test shark fins in Hong Kong to then prosecute merchants who sell endangered sharks.

Read more about Denvy, read more about Delian, and support our champions today!
