Prayer

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.

Oh Divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Amen
--St. Francis of Assisi

Knightly News
January 4, 2012

Message from BSM President, Dr. Bob Tift
This is a difficult time for our students, and we are blessed by all that families, faculty and staff do to form a strong support system. The students benefit from your counsel and prayers.

In the wake of the sad news affecting our community, the following statement from me has been sent to the media. The statement has been posted on the homepage of the BSM website and on the BSM and BSM Alumni Facebook pages.

May God bless the members of our community who are suffering and all of you who provide so much support. Thank you.

- Dr. Bob Tift

Statement from Bob Tift, president of Benilde-St. Margaret’s School
January 3, 2012
:

We extend our support and sympathies to the individuals in the Benilde-St. Margaret’s community who have experienced sadness in the past several days. Our first concerns are for students and parents who are suffering. We offer our prayers in faith that the spiritual and physical wounds will heal with God’s grace and love. We thank everyone, new and old friends of BSM, near and far, who have expressed concern for our community. Know that our students are supported by campus ministers, counselors, teachers, staff, and families. Please continue to stand with us as our students grow and learn from the full range of life’s experiences, including those that involve sorrow and require comfort.

Admissions Open House, Yard Signs
If you have a BSM yard sign, we kindly ask that you display it now, prior to our January 9 open house. If you have not yet received a yard sign, but would like one, you may contact Kate Leahy at kleahy@BSMschool.org. Please encourage your friends who may have prospective Red Knights to join us for our open house. More information is at www.BSMschool.org/ImportantDates.

Also, due to set up for the event, there will be limited space for current students in the building after school on Monday. If earlier pick-ups can be arranged for students that day, it would be appreciated.

College Financial Aid Information
We want to inform parents of seniors that the 2012-2013 FAFSA on the Web Worksheets Form is now available in the college and career center. This form is also on the FAFSA website (www.fafsa.ed.gov). In the search box, type “FAFSA worksheet.” The FAFSA on the Web Worksheets are used to help with the online submission of the FAFSA (www.fafsa.ed.gov). Families must complete the FAFSA when applying for federal student aid. There are three categories of federal student aid: grants, work-study, and loans.

The College Financial Aid Night for parents of seniors is Wednesday, January 11, at 7 p.m. in the Hamburge Theater. Jennifer McCormack from St. Catherine University’s Financial Aid Office will be presenting.

College & Career Center Coordinator Patty Gilmore recently visited several Canadian campuses and wants to make our families aware of some surprising facts.
• Minnesota has had a tuition reciprocity agreement with Manitoba, Canada.
• Tuition for universities in Manitoba average $3,500-$4,000 (with total costs being less than $15,000 annually).
• Students from Minnesota can use U.S. federal student loans to pay for tuition at most Manitoba colleges.
• In Winnipeg, students can “study abroad,” but drive home on weekends, if necessary.

Parent Association Board Positions for 2012-2013
The BSM Parent Association is accepting nominations for members of its 2012-2013 board. Positions to be filled include assistant treasurer, hospitality, junior high activities, community wellness, Prayer Line, social programs, student/faculty recognition, and ways and means. In addition to these board positions, we will fill other leadership roles for some of our events such as Knightsbridge, and more. View full job descriptions for the various positions.

Service in the BSMPA is a great way to get involved at the school and meet a lot of terrific people. While we know that it’s hard to begin thinking about next year already, it’s important for us to plan ahead.

For questions, please contact Kathy Dillon at 612-270-6035. If you know someone you would like to nominate or would like to nominate yourself, please complete the online nomination form. If you prefer, you can mail a printed nomination form to BSM or send it electronically to kathycdillon@aol.com no later than January 15, 2012. You will receive a response by March 15, 2012.
