Gear Tip Winter is here. If you can't afford to buy any high tech heated gear or are on a tight budget as many of us are these days, Wool is a fantastic insulator, so whip out your wool sweaters, pants and socks and put them to good use.
Or, get down to your local Goodwill and you'll find a treasure trove of warm wool options to keep you nice and toasty during your morning commute.

What's New.
Well I guess I hit my 2 year mark since the last time I had an accident on a bike. Last week I had the miserable experience of being rear ended on my beloved motorcycle. Lucky for me, I was wearing everything one should be wearing while riding and was able to protect all the vital parts of my body except for 'the finger'. What better finger is there to break than this one?
October must be an unlucky month because my good friend Aleks was in an accident a couple weeks before me, but is well on the road to recovery. Get Well SOON, can't wait to ride with you again!
You'll also see on my events list that a couple of things are on the schedule, first Scuderia Open House. Winter is here, so what better way to kick off the winter riding season than upgrading your winter riding gear? Come and see me next Saturday for free food and a raffle that benefits Riders for Health.
The other event that's on my list is IMS San Mateo and Long Beach! As a subscriber to my newsletter, you are automatically eligible to receive $3 off coupons good for ANY show through the 2010 season. Just reply to this email with your address and how many coupons you'd like (limit 10 per person).
Dressing Up.
With Halloween comes the obligation to dress up...my dog! A few years back we attempted to dress benny up as Batman. The year before that he was a Jailbird, before that, he was an Oakland Raider. The list goes on and on. I adore Benny and he HATES wearing costumes. But every year I put him in a silly costume so I can make myself and other people a little happier. There's something about seeing that sad, humiliated face that makes me giggle.
A lot of people love the idea of dressing up on Halloween. I sort of lost that excitement after the 5th grade. I'm perfectly content sitting at home, watching scary movies tonight. That's just me. But I know for many of you, the idea of dressing up at Halloween is fun, thrilling and exciting.
But for some of us, dressing in costume is a requirement every day that we ride. Even moving the bike from one corner to another requires all my gear: full face helmet, gloves, jacket, and my beloved Daytonas. I get excited when I'm fully dressed and ready to go. Don't get me wrong, it doesn't give me powers of invincibility or a false sense of security. It does however, give me comfort in knowing that a broken middle finger is the least of my worries. Without my gear I could've suffered even worse injuries to my head, shoulders, knees and feet.
With riding comes risk. Sometimes you have to do things you don't want to do in order to save your ass. Literally.

Happy Halloween!
and Benny.
