Inside this issue... The Sweetest DayHi <<First Name>>, Valentine's Day is just around the corner. Have you picked out cards yet? Remember picking out a box of Valentine's cards to give to your friends at school? Should you get Snoopy cards or Sesame Street cards? Do you buy conversation hearts or little chocolates to go with the cards?
Now when I pick out cards, I'm a little choosier. I don't look for the best cartoons, but the cards that best fit my friends. I might bake some cookies for the office, but I probably won't buy any little boxes of hearts.
While I think Valentine’s Day can be a minefield of unmet expectations, I do appreciate the reminder to celebrate those we love, whether friend or family. My life gets so busy that I find myself hurrying through each day without stopping to think of those I love for more than a fleeting second.
Valentine’s Day puts the brakes on our busyness and prompts us to express our love and gratitude for one another. As one friend said, “You don’t have to spend a lot of money. Just do something to let people know you’re thinking about them.”
Have fun planning something for those you love, and if you have any unique ideas, send them my way. I really enjoy sharing creative ideas.

Dove Review Hollywood on Fire Dove Family-Approved A city on a hill cannot be hid
List: $19.98 $17.98 10%off! Releases on: Tuesday, February 24, 2009
Dove Review: This documentary is enlightening as well as nicely made. It features Dr. Larry Poland of Master Media International, a man whose organization promotes faith and family media. Other media giants from the film industry are included: producer Bill Ewing, who produced The End of the Spear and Howard Kazanjian, producer of "Return of the Jedi". The thing that is most enjoyable about this documentary is how well it mixes quotes from Walt Disney and Benjamin Franklin, to comments made by people inside the entertainment industry, and the vast use of clips to the variety of people interviewed. It is a nice blending of important people. The clip of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt stating that motion pictures had become a major force is a nice beginning. Ben Franklin's insightful comment that people who believe money will do everything will do everything for money is also quite insightful. Quotes from C.S. Lewis and Walden Media's production of The Chronicles of Narnia are discussed, and a quote is given by J.R.R. Tolkien about deciding what to do in life with the time that is given to us. Penelope Foster, producer, speaks of her decision to remain in Hollywood, to bloom where she is planted, and the rewards and difficulties of following that decision. Chuck Norris adds his comments and the theme overall is that Hollywood is not something to be shunned, nor the arts, but are challenges to bring the Christian faith to its working people. This is a quality production and we gladly award our Dove "Family-Approved" Seal to it along with five Doves, our highest rating. Expressions of Love Love comes in many forms: romantic love, love for a community, love for the disadvantaged. The greatest of these is love.
"The Pink Panther 2:" Martin Is No Sellers by Jeff Walls
Steve Martin returns as the bumbling Inspector Clouseau in The Pink Panther 2, a sequel to the 2006 remake that itself probably never should have been made. As much as I admire Martin and think he’s a comic genius; he is completely wrong for this role. In fact, I don’t see how any actor other than Peter Sellers could be right for this role. Trying to walk in his footsteps is kin to another actor playing Richard Blaine or Don Corleone.
The movie is not so much about the plot as it is about the gags. Unfortunately, the gags range mostly from unfunny and just plain stupid to minimally clever, generating something little more than a chuckle with only a very few exceptions.
One thing you can say about Pink Panther 2 is that it does put together quite an impressive cast. In addition to Martin and the also returning Jean Reno and Emily Mortimer, the film features Andy Garcia, Alfred Molina, John Cleese and Lily Tomlin. Jeremy Irons also shows up, but his role doesn’t amount to much more than a cameo. They each have their moments, but in general the great cast is just wasted. Not to mention the accents that are just plain awful to the point of being a distraction. Strangely enough, the only accent that sounds somewhat appropriate is John Cleese’s, who doesn’t even make an effort to sound like a Frenchman.
I carry around a certain affection for the original Pink Panther films and honestly, it has been awhile since I have watched them so I can’t even say for sure that the gags in those films were any more clever than what we are getting today. Then again, the gags in those films—particularly The Pink Panther and A Shot in the Dark—felt more original. They were also performed by Sellers, who also disappears into Clouseau’s many disguises much easier than Martin.
If you are one of those responsible for the 2006 Pink Panther’s $160 million take, than you will probably like the sequel just as much as there is plenty more of the same. Otherwise, I recommend seeking out the original films and discover the comedy true comedy gold. Rating The Pink Panther 2 is rated PG for “some suggestive humor, brief mild language and action.” The only thing I really noticed is the suggestive humor, referring to some sex and racial gags, but I’d say this movie is appropriate for all ages.
