Inside this issue... Geniuses Solve World's Worst ProblemsHi <<First Name>>, If you made a list of the top 10 problems in the world, what would they be? Hunger? Poverty? AIDS? Genocide?
If you were challenged to solve them with a team of people, who would be on your team? Would you pick people from your family, your church, or government? How would you decide?
In the new DVD release The Genius Club, a crazed madman threatens to destroy the world unless seven geniuses he assembles solve the world’s greatest problems. Among the issues he wants solved are cancer, war, and rush hour traffic jerks.
An interesting cast and lively discussions are the centerpieces of this film. Does the world come to an end? Does someone have the cure for cancer? You’ll have to watch the movie to find out.

Seven geniuses, with IQs over 200, are plucked from their lives on Christmas Eve to try to solve the world's problems in one night. If they fail, the world will come to an end. "One of the most thought-provoking films I have ever seen...ultimately this film makes one think about his or her view on God." - Edwin Carpenter, Christian Entertainment Review/Dove Foundation Cloud 10 Favorites
Cloud 10 Pictures has produced some great faith-affirming films. Enjoy some of our top picks. Industry Interview Christians in Cinema: Andre van Heerden by Angela Walker Producer, director, and CEO of Cloud 10 Pictures Andre van Heerden has been involved with film and production of some sort since journalism school. Since accepting the position of CEO of Cloud 10 Pictures in December 2007, he has worked with Paul Lalonde (chairman) to re-introduce Cloud 10 as a strong presence in the Christian film market. You’ve had a busy year. What are some of the projects you’re handling right now?
Andre: We have been releasing into churches like we did in the past with Left Behind: World at War. We have 3 new titles coming out this year. One came out in June, and it’s called Smuggler’s Ransom.
It’s a shorter film, about 45 minutes, dealing with a woman who is caught smuggling Bibles into Romania during the Cold War.
Then we have Genius Club, which we showed in churches in August, with the DVD coming out in September. It has Tom Sizemore, Stephen Baldwin, and Tricia Helfer. It’s the story of seven geniuses trying to solve all the world’s problems in one night.
It’s full of very high-level conversations and debates, and the stakes are high for everyone. Ultimately, the group is asked to come up with the answer to “what is the meaning of life?” So it certainly sparks a lot of conversation. [ Read more... ]
The Time to See "Henry Poole Is Here" Is Right Now!
by Dr. Marc T. Newman, Ph.D - Movie Ministry "Henry Poole is Here" is a timely film in many senses of that word. To the ancient Greeks time was represented by chronos and kairos. Chronos was the word that stood for the passing of time. Kairos spoke to the idea of timeliness – as in the right or opportune time. In theological terms, kairos is the kind of time in which God acts. The beauty of 'Henry Poole is Here" is how it uses Henry’s time in the film, and our time in the theater, to infuse chronos – the passage of both Henry’s and our own -- with a little much-needed kairos.

Christians in Cinema: John Schneider by Angela Walker
Look up John Schneider on the Internet Movie Databae (imdb.com) and you’ll find a list of credits all the way back to the mid-1970s, beginning with “The Dukes of Hazzard.” After that show catapulted him to fame as a television icon, he turned to country music and found success in a second career. While living with Johnny and June Carter Cash, John was introduced to Christianity and became a believer. He makes no apologies for his faith, and believes in living it out in the middle of Hollywood, Broadway, or wherever his career takes him. On a busy morning before going to a costume fitting for a new movie, he made time to talk about his latest film Hidden Secrets.
Hidden Secrets stands out from other “Christian” films that have been released lately. When you received the script, why were you interested in doing the movie?
John: I kind of cringe when someone tells me that there’s a Christian group that wants you to read a script. A lot of times it’s very saccharine and preachy, and I start right away to give my “turn-it-down” speech.
I started reading this, and things that Gary (John’s character) has an attitude right off the bat. He says these terrifically witty things about abortion. He’s somebody who has an intelligent debate about why he thinks Christianity is a bunch of hooey. You don’t get that in a Christian script, in any script, really. I just loved that guy right off the bat.
