Inside this issue... Happy Anniversary Hi <<First Name>>, Do you know there is a tradition of giving a certain type of gift for specific anniversary years? According to a website I found, it dates back to the Middle Ages. In the early 20th century, a list was created that suggests gifts of increasing value for each year of marriage. You see, stability deserves a reward, and the more the stability, the greater the reward. This year, ChristianCinema.com celebrates 10 years of service to the Christian community. In 1999, brothers Bobby and Kevin Downes had a vision to make films with a Christian worldview and to encourage other filmmakers with the same passion. With that goal in mind, they began producing films and created the ChristianCinema.com website. We're excited about the next 10 years. Exciting things are happening in Christian film, and it's because you are supporting filmmakers. When you buy DVDs here, you help further the work of men and women who are using film to bring the hope of Jesus Christ to a world in need. Thank you and Happy Anniversary. Angela Walker ChristianMovieNews.com Industry Interview John Branyan Is Wired for Comedy by Angela Walker Winner of a 2009 Bronze Crown Award for Best Comedy Video (Fly-Over Comedy), John Branyan's comedy can be hazardous to your health. After 12 years of honing his craft and working full-time as a graphic designer for a printing company, John went full-time as a comedian. Do you have a standard set that you do when you're performing stand-up routines? Or is it pretty improvisational? John: I have a block of material that I've developed over the years that I will use. But in a live performance, there's always the possibility of something spontaneous happening. I've got things that are built into the act that sort of fish for spontaneous reactions. But if it doesn't happen, I can fall back on the material. The goal is to make it look like... It's not flashy, and it doesn't even look like an outstanding film...in fact, it looks a little cheesy. But, as I've learned, you can't judge a movie by its poster! After seeing the trailer, I was hooked! This movie is surprisingly very good. An offbeat comedy with a romantic twist, the film certainly has heart. Sure, there is some language ( The Lord's name is taken in vain a few times), and there are surely some scenes that make the film PG-13-worthy. There is also one blatant "joke" at Christianity's expense, dealing with a commercial being shot about a guacamole-maker, and "The Passion of the Christ". While much of the film is laugh-out-loud funny, this line is not. I did cringe a couple times, but, on the whole, it is MUCH cleaner than Little Miss Sunshine, without sacrificing one bit of quality or humor. I laughed really hard. I teared up. I hoped Ryden (the grad) would make the right choices. I went on the adventure with her. I rooted for her family, much like their mantra: "We are the Malbys!" Simply put, I really enjoyed this movie. And, I will definitely see it again.
