Jim's Place
I generally take Granny White Pike to and from the church each day.  It’s probably not as quick as the interstate, but I enjoy the drive more.  Until lately.  If you’ve been along Granny White for the past couple of months, you know that they are working on water/sewer lines.  In effect, they are tearing up parts of the road and doing a “temporary” repair job.  This includes a lot of very annoying steel plates they use to cover up large holes in the road until they can fix them properly.

These steel plates are probably two inches thick and they could probably cut a tire if you hit them the wrong way.  So your choices right now are to plow through them quickly and take your chances, slow to 2 miles per hour and gently go over them, or attempt an “end around” and try to avoid them altogether.  I see a lot of people try option three.  In order to pull it off, they have to swerve into the shoulder or, my personal favorite, move into the oncoming traffic lane.  This requires a fairly fast decision—you must calculate your speed and the speed of the oncoming car and then figure out if you have enough time to move into the wrong lane, avoid the steel plate, and then re-enter the proper lane before a head-on collision occurs. One Worship and One Room Sunday School - April 11th
Remember this Sunday -- We will be having a one room Sunday School for all children, youth and adults.  There will be many people out of town on the Church Family Retreat and this will be a great time to have all ages together! Sip and Dip will be in the Fellowship Hall starting at 9:30am and everyone will stay in the Fellowship Hall for the Sunday School Hour! This will all be followed by one worship time at 11:00 am.

Guest Preacher will be with us -- April 18
Rev. Meeli Tankler from Estonia will be our guest preacher on Sunday, April 18. She will speak at both worship services and will share with the congregation the work that she and her husband are involved with at the Baltic Methodist Theological Seminary.  Please mark your calendar and make your plans to be here.

The Pastor's Class -- New Study
On Sunday, April 18, the Pastor's Class will be starting on a new book written by C.S. Lewis, "Mere Christianity."  If you are not participating in a Sunday School class, you are invited to join this class that meets on the Veranda at 9:45 a.m.

The Shopping Bag at Bethlehem Centers
Calling all gals!  There will be a Spring Fashion Show featuring clothing items from the Shopping Bag at Bethlehem Centers.  There will be lunch and a view of spring items from the Shopping Bag at 12:00 noon on April 18 at Forest Hills UMC sponsored by the Forest Hills United Methodist Women.  The Fashion Show will feature special guest models and an event host.  Clothing and monetary donations benefit the Shopping Bag operations and Bethlehem Centers of Nashville.  If you would like to model some of your own gently used clothing that you can then donate to the Shopping Bag, please contact Pat Tyree at 373-8449 for more information.

Bear Sunday -- April 18
It almost here!  Please bring your "new" plush bears for Bear Sunday on April 18.  These toy animals will be blessed on that Sunday.  They will be distributed to children in the community with needs.  Be sure that the toy bears you donate are safe for children of all ages.

T-Group Mystery Day Planned – Sunday, April 25th
The T-Group will be having a “Mystery Day” on Sunday, April 25th. We will be boarding our vans right after church, and heading to our fun-filled day,
including lunch and a great time together – all within our great city of Nashville.  The total cost for the afternoon is only $30 per person. Ooo – what could it be?  Where could we be going?  Will I need to bring anything? Will it be cold or hot?  The only thing you need to bring is yourself and a smile!  And maybe a friend or too, they won’t want to miss this special day!  One more thing, you might want have handy a “life jacket” (Hmmm…). That’s your only clue to the Mystery Day – and no, it’s not the General Jackson. Please sign-up on the bulletin board in Petie Heard Hall, or call Jody Hibbett to make your reservation.  We already have 20 signed up to go – don’t be left out!

Spring Work Day -- April 24
The Trustees Committee has planned a Spring Work Day on Saturday, April 24.  We will be cleaning at the church.  We need volunteers to join the "cleaning party."  Bring your work gloves and wear your work clothes.  We will be painting, cleaning out closets and classrooms, removing small shrubs from drainage areas, and just general cleaning inside and outside the church.  Mark your calendar and help us make Forest Hills UMC a wonderful place to worship.

Christian Forum Breakfast in February
The Christian Forum Class would like to thank everyone who participated in this year's breakfast honoring Jack Vicary.  We are pleased to announce that the class has voted to support the following areas with this year's breakfast proceeds and a little out of the treasury to make our total donation $2,500:  Victoria Bowman $1005, 61st Ave. Church $250, Hope Clinic $195, Maintenance of FHUMC $955, FHUMC Library $95.

Lenten Crosses on the Lawn
A time to plant, and a time to reap -- Our 40 days of Lent have come and gone for this year, and how fast this time seemed to fly by.  Thanks to all of you who participated in our Lenten Crosses on the Lawn—we hope that everyone had the chance to walk around our church front lawn and experience the beautiful and creative crosses this Lenten season.  We will keep the crosses displayed just one more week.  If you designed a cross, and would like to keep it, please come to the church front lawn, remove your cross, and take it home with you sometime this week.  If you designed a cross, and would prefer for the church to keep it until next year, the we will remove it at the end of this week and store the crosses all together until next year.  We will be removing all remaining crosses on Monday, April 12th.  One simple note for removal of your cross:  try to remove your cross from the ground by pulling up from the bottom of the cross—try not to pull on the crossbar of the cross.  Simply move the cross from side to side to loosen it from the ground, and it should come out of the ground easily.  Again, thank you to everyone who participated in this Lenten project!  Start thinking about your cross design for next year—Lent begins March 9, 2011!

Special Thank You to Holy Week Worship Helpers
We send out a great big THANK YOU to all of you who participated in our Holy Week worship services recently!  To everyone who helped during the Maundy Thursday Service in the stripping of the Sanctuary—THANK YOU!  To everyone who helped in preparing for the Maundy Thursday and Good Friday Services—THANK YOU!  And to all of you who helped during the processional on Easter Sunday at both the 8:31 and the 11:00 worship services—THANK YOU!  A joyful celebration of worship was experienced by all—thanks for your continued help in making all of our worship experiences outstanding, giving all praise and glory to God!

A Thank You from Bowling Green First UMC
Thank you for your generosity and assistance in providing accomodations for our mission team!  The experience was a blessing to us as God used us in the process of repairing/reconstructing homes to let the people of Lake Charles know they have not been forgotten, and to let them know the church remains committed to the restoration of their community and their lives and the healing of their spirits.  We had a great team of people who worked very hard and accomplished a great deal as we shared God's love.  We were blessed with great fellowship, good weather and safe travel.  Your kind gift of hospitality was compounded many times.  It helped enable us to provide more than 800 work hours of recovery assistance installing, mudding, and finishing drywall, and cleanup, painting, and repair work in a number of homes.  May God bless you richly! - Hurricane Recovery Mission Team of Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan & Bowling Green First UMC.
