Australia's Top Young Regailers Announced
Rebecca Willett from Boost Juice Bars has been named the 2009 NRA Young Retailer of the Year at the 2009 NRA Young Retailer of the Year Luncheon held recently at the Four Points Sheraton, Sydney.
The 2009 NRA Young Retailer of the Year runner up was awarded to Daisy Youhanna of SABA.
Rebecca Willett, who has been with Boost Juice Bars for around 6 years, is a National Operations Trainer, and at the age of 24 has worked her way up from a team member at the Swanston Street and Southgate stores to the Company Retail Manager in Victoria and now travels the country training franchisees, master franchisees and new business managers as the National Operations Trainer. Her accomplishments within Boost Juice Bars and the retail industry are to be commended.
Now in their 36th year, the Young Retailer of the Year Competition was developed as a way of recognising and rewarding excellence amongst young retailers under the age of 25. The competition gives young retailers the chance to exhibit their retailing skills and have those recognised not only by their peers but by the wider community.
Of 80 entries submitted by young retailers throughout Australia 13 finalists were chosen to attend the 2009 NRA Young Retailer of the Year Luncheon where young retailers delivered a presentation based on their career thus far within the retail industry and a store improvement plan to further develop their store. The judging process, concluding in this presentation consisted of a written submission containing a career overview and explanation of their store improvement plan and an in depth interview with the judging panel made up of retail industry experts including Claudine Rochecouste (HRIQ), Stephen Booth (Chair NRA Judging Panel) and Greg Harper (NRA General Manager Training and Workforce Solutions).
Gary Black, NRA Executive Director, stated that “All entries were of an extremely high calibre which is a testament to participating young retailer organisations that provide an excellent base and support network for the development of young people in the retail industry”.

Service Skills Australia wants to hear from workers in the Retail industry
Service Skills Australia is calling for workers in the retail industry to participate in a survey and contribute to the future direction of accredited training in Australia.
In 2008, Service Skills Australia conducted an online survey in which 90% of respondents stated that their business provides on-the-job training. But do employers and workers have different views on what training really means? Service Skills is seeking to answer this question, and explore how workers benefit from training.
The survey will provide information to the service industries about the value and uptake of on-the-job training and the awareness of accredited qualifications and certificates.
Participants have the chance to go in the draw to win a $250 gift voucher.
This survey is completely anonymous and should take no longer than 10 minutes to complete. The closing date is 30 September 2009.
