Nick McBride will be delivering a lecture titled "Student as intellectual: A philosophy of education" at the next Pizza & Prof Honors College event to be held at 5:45 p.m. tomorrow, Feb. 7, in Goodell 504.

Steve Fox will be delivering a presentation titled "The media, public opinion and national security policy" between 8:45 - 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 8, at the Institute for Training and Development at 447 West Street, South Amherst.

Joe McGinniss, the celebrated author of "The selling of a president, 1968" and "The rogue: Searching for the real Sarah Palin," will be speaking at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, March 12, in the Cape Cod Lounge. Also, the next day, at the same hour and in the same place, UMass will host Pulitzer Prize writer and journalist Tony Horwitz.

The 19th annual Massachusetts Multicultural Film Festival begins Wednesday, Feb. 8.

The UMass Photojournalism Club will hold its first spring meeting at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 8, in Bartlett 107. For more details, email Brian McDermott.

II. Jobs and Internships

Intern with the Spoleto Festival USA this spring in Charleston, South Carolina. Areas of apprenticeship include Box Office, Development, and Media Relations. Application deadline: Feb. 17.

Do a film and video internship this summer at Hampshire College. Grants are available for selected students.

If you are a student member of the National Association of Black Journalists, consider applying to the New York Times Student Journalism Institute summer program, to be held between May 13 - 27. Students will have all their expenses paid and will receive a small stipend.

The Washington Politics and Journalism Semester offers a $3,000 stipend to selected students to participate in its program this fall. This is a competitive program, but very worthwhile! Students must be nominated by professor BJ Roche. This will be a great time to be in Washington, so if you're interested, please contact professor Roche as soon as possible.

Need some money? The SBS College gives away thousands of dollars in scholarships each year. (See here for a complete list). For a few hours work, you could get $5,000. You can get tips and advice for how to apply (along with free pizza) at the SBS Scholarship Workshop, to be held at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 16. (We'll tell you the location next week). Submit your work to the Five College Student Film & Video Festival to be held on Friday, Feb. 24, in Stoddard Hall at Smith College. Deadline: 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 16.

The Add/Drop period ends at 10 p.m. today, Feb. 6. Make sure you have at least 12 credits in your schedule by tonight. Between today and March 13, you can still drop a class with a "W." (Here's the form you need to turn in to the SBS Advising Center in Thompson 128). After March 13, you can withdraw from a class only by petitioning the Academic Dean.

The Learning Resource Center is now open to all students. The Center, located on the 10th floor of the library, provides free, face-to-face tutoring in a variety of courses.

The Center for Multicultural Advancement and Student Success (CMASS) is organizing a workshop on Managing Career Stress at 4:00 p.m. tomorrow, Feb. 7, in Campus Center 905-909, and another workshop titled Dress for Success at 6:00 p.m., also tomorrow, in Wilder 201.

Need one more credit to graduate? Worried about what happens after you graduate? Consider registering for this 1-credit, one weekend Continuing Education course called "The UMass off-ramp: Making the transition from university to career." The course will be held between 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25 and Sunday, Feb. 26.

The American Institute for Roman Culture is offering a semester in Rome program that includes journalism, social media, communication and film courses. Application deadline: March 15.
