News, Tips & Tricks

Welcome to the very first edition of Spike@School News, Tips and Tricks!

We've recently been hunting for a way to keep our users up to date with what's been happening in Spike@School and have settled upon a semi-regular email newsletter in which we'll be giving you the latest news and also some tips and tricks that you might find helpful when using Spike@School to work with your website.

I just wanted to quickly explain how we came to have your email address. We've basically imported all users of Spike@School into our mailing system. We don't want to spam you, so if you don't want to receive these newsletters then simply unsubscribe using the link at the bottom of this email and that's the last you'll hear from us!

Conversely, if you think someone else might find these newsletters useful, please use the Forward to a friend link at the bottom of this email to send it to them.

What's New?

New Modules
Unless you've had a good hunt around the Construction Zone or looked at the News section of our website you probably wouldn't have heard that we've added a cool new module called ePortfolio Areas! ePortfolio Areas allow you to make private and secure areas for your students to present their work online. Rather than spend too much time talking about it here, we recommend you check out the ePortfolio Areas walkthrough on our website to find out what they look like and how they work. We've already seen many schools introduce them to their students and the feedback has been positive.

In addition to ePortfolio Areas, we also added Blogs and Comment Areas as new modules at the start of the year. All three new modules are waiting for you right now in the Construction Zone, just itching for you to add them to your site!

Updated Website
Yesterday we finally finished updating our website to reflect all of the changes we've made to Spike@School over the last year and a half. We thoroughly recommend you check out the How It Works section as it goes through each of our modules in a good amount of detail.

Follow Us On Twitter
We were looking for a quick and easy way to keep people updated with the small changes we make all the time to Spike@School, and other important tid-bits of information. We now post this information to our Twitter account. You don't need to belong to Twitter to check this out, so just bookmark it in your browser and check back regularly.

A Quick Tip

Plimmerton School recently asked us if it was possible to have a particular profile always showing on the right-hand side of the Profile Area opening screen. At the time it wasn't possible, but we've now added this feature! Simply click Edit next to the Profile Area in question in the Construction Zone and change Default Profile from 'Random' to the name of the person who you always want to showcase. Many schools will find this useful to always show their BOT Chairperson or Principal for example.

Feedback
We'd love to hear your thoughts and ideas about Spike@School, and also any ideas of what we could cover in future newsletters. Just reply to this email and let us know. :)

See Ya Next Time!

Thanks for taking the time to read this newsletter, and we look forward bringing the next one to you in a few weeks time.

If you know of any schools in your area that could benefit from a Spike@School website, please let them know about us, or tell us about them. We do truly believe Spike@School is the easiest way to do a school website and would love to help more schools. Did you know we already have over 90 schools using Spike@School in New Zealand?!

Have a great day!
