Celebrate Graduation!

Join us for the AAD Sixth Graduation Celebration

Once again AAD holds a graduation celebration. On Thursday evening, October 27, 2011 7:00 p.m. at the Durham County Courthouse, 200 E. Main Street, second floor in the County Commissioners’ Chambers AAD will hold our graduation celebration for our students that have obtained their North Carolina Equivalency Diplomas during this past year.

The Commencement Address will be delivered by Representative Larry Hall, NC 29th House District Representative.   Please join us!

Third Community Launched

With support from the Triangle Community Foundation Community Grantmaking Program, AAD started a new element to our postsecondary programming this fall.  The goal of the Third Community is to help our postsecondary students – former high school drop-outs - bridge the cultural chasm between multigenerational poverty and the lives for which postsecondary education prepares them academically.

Through a focused series of participatory evening workshops and more informal social/cultural events, we want to help our students transition out of our program as confident, autonomous adults with an established network of mutually supportive social relationships coupled with skills and practice in culture switching, positive parenting, cooperative organizing, career networking, and advocacy.

Third Thursday is Back!

Invite a Friend or Someone Who Should Know about AAD.

AAD is resuming our Third Thursday lunches where community members are invited into our classroom to learn about the good work we do here at AAD.  Please let Sandy Ogburn know if you would like to come or let us know if there is someone you think we should invite.  Dates for this fall are October 20 and November 17 from 12:30-1:30. sogburn@achievedurham.org
