| Day: Fridays Time: 07:00 Location: The Paddock, Station Road, Melbourne Group Leader: Philip Cooper Membership: Peter Mosley Development: Steve Mason Every Friday morning at 7am, when most of us are dreaming of closing that golden business deal, a collection of hardcore toasters are living your dream in Melbourne, Derbyshire! Last week's 10 minutes was presented by David Pattison of DPM. David explained the types of Architectural design work he has been involved in over the last 30 years covering: domestic, commercial, retail and leisure properties. He has a multi-disciplined background and is able to support work from simple drainage plans and dilapidations, right through to complete design and build project management. His idea referrals would be into local authorities, developers and commercial lawyers. Group Developments Leader, Steve Mason covered the topic of " how to Introduce and conduct yourself at a networking event". Do: Go in to OPEN groups and at a convenient time in the conversation, introduce yourself. Talk to people who appear to be on their own. Be inclusive with everyone in a group. Have a good introduction. Do get other peoples business cards. Present your card, but don't THRUST it on others. Do thank people who you have met for their time. Now for the don'ts: Don't talk more than you listen. Don't get districted too easily from the conversation thread. Don't write on people's business card unless they had given permission. Follow these pointers and you should escape unscathed. Ignore them at your own peril! Group Membership Host, Peter Mosley, covered the University of Derby mentoring scheme, which had helped some 50 students in its time and is looking to help more in the future. Introductions Nigel Grainger of Fleet Risk Management is looking for Insurance underwriters. Jean of Confidence with Cooking will be running an Italian cooking course in October bookings open soon. John Bricknell of National Vehicle Solution is looking for companies with fleets of cars, vans, lorries and boats. Keith Deakin of Pink Connect has just saved a company £5k per year on their mobile phones. Andy Miles of Recession Slayer is looking for Students off to University who want to reduce any Student loan effects. More information: here! |

| Day: Fridays Time: 12:30 Location: Makeney Hall, Milford, Belper Group Leader: Simon Thacker Membership: Gary Parsons Development: Rachel Royston-Webb Belper reported a great meeting during the 'regarded' quiet week for businesses due to holiday commitments. The meeting maintained the usual light atmosphere that is now prevalent of Friday afternoons, with members being as interactive and helpful as ever. It was noted that there was a lot of networking and business discussions before the meeting and this continued at a swift pace following the meeting too. The weeks 10 minute slot was given by Rachel Royston-Webb from HR Dept – Demonstrating the rights employee’s had, discussing contracts of employment and terms and conditions and also health and safety implications. For all your outsourced HR needs, Contact Rachel on 0845 863 0651. This week we have Chris Howard from Cactus Images, dazzling us with his commercial photography skills. The membership slot covered the Mentoring Scheme, in association with the University of Derby, which required minimum input from which you will receive maximum gains. The Development slot covered '1st impressions' and making them count, using a member from our group to underline those facts. We welcomed Bryan Locke from The Business Consultancy who will be signing up following his impending holidays. Jenny from Amber Valley Borough Council educated us as to the work that her team are undertaking in the local area. With respect to regeneration, the Shop Front Improvement Scheme, and also the introduction of a Creative Industry Strategy. They also have a new website – www.Ambervalleybusinessclub.com Introductions We also welcomed Nigel Cholerton from Bakewells Solicitors. In fact, Nigel is not a solicitor, but a Barrister, and is looking for any contractual breeches, dispute resolution and discrimination issues that businesses require legal assistance with. Tim Walker, a fresh graduate with a 2.1 degree in Business Management was looking for leads into HR companies so that he could undertake some mentee work – something that Rachel Royston-Webb from HR Dept in Belper was assisting with. Both Rachel and Simon Thacker are looking for introductions into care homes and will be getting together during the week to discuss how they could both assist each other with this. Simon Chaplin from Chaplin IFA was looking for introductions into probate and injury solicitors, for helping those individuals who wanted to invest their lump sum rewards. Gary and Lee from G&L Plastering wanted to obtain some further commercial plastering work in Derbyshire, which would follow on from their work at Centre Parcs. They also were promoting their new venture, which was the “Damp Detective” – working for Landlords and property agents who wanted damp problems dealing with. Anthony from AML Midlands, the local IT genius (complete with authentic Yorkshire accent) is happy to travel to any business with an IT requirement between Leeds and Leicester. He loves the M1 so much, apparently. Remember, if you’d like to visit this group, or think that you can help any of its members, please contact simon@williscooper.com. More information: here! |
