Ring Ring Goes the Bell
Labor Day has come and gone, which means summer is officially over. We at RentFoodBroke are slowly making peace with that. The last of the summer series are ending, with the final Free Movie on the Terrace (the original "Karete Kid") at Westfield Century City tonight. Some of you started school, but no need to worry about the fun ending now. Think of it as a time for fresh starts. Read on for opportunities to learn outside the classroom (it's cool, we promise!) and welcome study breaks. Passed school over because it seemed so expensive? Guess again. And whether you're in school or just feeling disconnected, making time with friends is free, and well worth it.

As always, be sure to forward this message to all your friends who you know would love RentFoodBroke as much as you do. Please continue to tweet about us, share us on Facebook, and spread the good word to everyone you know. If some generous friend sent this to you, sign up here and get in on the fun. Now let's get started!

There's a lot I love in this world. Here's a short list of some things: Cheap Drinks. Short Films. $5 that includes getting my first drink for FREE! (Sure, you may say I paid cash for that drink, but then what of the entertainment? But I digress...) Tonight, this list comes together for a Happy Hour of AWESOME in the form of HAPPY HOUR IN THE CAN — A Short Film Showcase at Akbar in lovely little Silverlake. I hear you'll even get to network with the filmmakers and film lovers alike, oohlala. Battlecry hosts the lineup — get there early to check them all out! Devil's Night Drive In Movie:
"Raiders of the Lost Ark"

Saturday, September 11, 2010 from 7:30pm to 10:00pm
at 240 W. 4th St. (at Broadway)
2nd Floor Roof Parking Lot, Downtown Los Angeles
Cost: $10

It's family friendly night at the drive-in! Wanna see Indiana Jones and The Raiders of the Lost Ark in the great outdoors? This is your night! Presented by Devil's Night Drive In, a monthly (bi-monthly during summer) movie night in Downtown L.A. on the roof of a parking lot (ok, so maybe we have a broad definition of "great outdoors"). Bring lawn chairs blankets, liquor, pillows — basically what ever you want to get comfortable. For food, Angel City Derby Girls provide hot dogs, hamburgers, nachos, popcorn, candy, drinks, and other goodies. They also car hop, and all you need to do is flash your lights to get their attention. You can watch the movie on the 24ft by 18ft screen from the comfort of your car via an FM transmitter that will broadcast the sound into your car stereo, or you can sit your butt on the large Astroturf area. Online ticket sales end at 3pm the day before the show, which might be a good idea if you're planning on bringing your car, but there's always space for walk/bike-ins if you just show up. Gates open at 6:30, and the movie starts at 7:30.

It's that time of time of year, children! Tuition is up, classes are cut, making it tougher than ever to continue our education. Moreover, not only do we have to pay for tuition, books, an supplies, some of us even have to cover room, board, coffee, and the occasional drink. (We need to stay sane somehow). Lucky for you, I’ve got a little tip that may help you keep a bit more cash in your pockets: Community College.

Friends are great for hanging out and mooching fries off. Life is busy though, and even bums sometimes have trouble making time to keep in touch. You can't swipe your credit card for 'em, but friends are not free. We don't mean you have to pay them to hang out (if you're currently doing so, please re-examine your social circle), we mean that you gotta put in some effort. Don't worry, it doesn’t have to be hard or expensive. We've got you covered with tips to keep in touch whether your buddy is across the hall or halfway around the world.

Hi. My name is HeadBum and I'm an addict – to sugar that is. Being the broke bum that I am, it's sometimes challenging to share that dependent love/craving/omigodgiveittomenow with my friends. Lucky for me, lots of obese Americans and corn subsidies have helped drive down the price of my crack. Thus, I can ask my bummy friends to a sweet tooth orgy and feel no guilt about assigning them each a sugar-loaded wonder. And if they complain tomorrow, well, sweetness has its price. Cheap!

You've shown us your support in the past and now we're giving back to you.
