Springtime - Flowers, Baby Animals and Beginning of all Things Cute

Hello, namaste everyone!
My favorite time of year has always been spring. It's a time of birth, creation, fresh starts and beautiful weather.

Spring is a time to plant seeds - the beginning of a new growth season, a new chapter, if you will. In creating new opportunities for ourselves, it's time to get out the ideas lists we have been creating and jump into action.

Do recall from the Bhagavad Gita that although we must act, we must not be attached to the results of our actions, nor should we be inactive.

So spend some time this spring planting seeds of creation for the upcoming year, without attachment to what grows, nurturing those seeds, loving them fully. And just know in your heart that you will get exactly what you deserve.

My recommendation is to get a journal and make a list of all of your ideas. Then choose the ideas you truly are in love with and create a plan of action for those ideas. Track your journey for each idea in your journal - this will help you stay involved with the project and not lose interest or proscrastinate, remember, you need to nurture your seeds.

I'm excited to hear about all the seeds that you plant. Please drop me a note and let me know how your spring garden grows. Best wishes for a beautiful spring season!

Wishing you a beautiful, sunny spring
Lots of love,
"Deva"

Amazing Events and Resources

Yoga Teacher Training in SLC with Dave and Cheryl!
We are putting together a 2-week intensive YTT session in Salt Lake during Oct-Nov 2011. If you are interested in beginning a 200-hr or 500-hr training, please contact me so I can get you details. In that session you will be able to attend as many hours as you like, pay for the full course, or just pay for modules. The training is intended for anybody interested in deepening their yoga experience with Vedic Chant, Sanskrit and Devanagari, Vedic Stories, Yoga Sutras, and of course Asana and Adjustments! This is not just for those wanting to teach yoga - it's for anybody seeking a truely authentic yoga experience. These are my yoga/chant teachers and because of the amazing impact they have made in my life...and my practice...I want Salt Lake City to have access to all the great knowledge that I have gained from them.

School of Practical Philosophy - Beginning philosophy class begins May 5 at Hegel Studio in Tempe. This is a must for all yogis! If you can't be there, they offer Skype sessions - email Niall for details.

Sanskrit - Stories from the Ramayana - learn Sanskrit the fun way - through stories! Begins May 19, taught by Niall Mandal. Skype is available!

Vedic Workshops with Shiva - if you are in SLC, you don't want to miss one more lecture with Shiva! He is in town from Latvia, sharing his amazing Vedic knowledge. He is teaching hatha yoga every morning at Flow Yoga (Shiva Center) in Sugarhouse from 11-12:30, then each evening is a lecture of a different Vedic topic. You can also get 30-60 min consultations with Shiva...I have one on Friday and I highly recommend! He is an ayurvedic doctor and Vedic astrologer - he can answer ANY question that you have!

Book of the Month

I just moved into my new home in Salt Lake City. I have been working on a plan to vastu shastra it up, trying to appease the vasta purusha of the home. Our homes are a physical manifestation of our self, so notice if things are bad in your life, what in your home might be causing them? Many diseases and problems are associated with living in a poorly vastu'd home. This book is a great resource to get you started on the basics. It will cover the directional points of the compass, the elements, the planets and deities associated with each direction, as well as a quiz to see just how vastu-friendly your home is.

Yoga Tip of the Month

A healthy spine means a long, healthy life. We easily notice what's in front of us, but rarely take into consideration what's behind. As yoga students, we like to scrunch forward to go deeper, rather than lengthing and decompressing our spines. That is a poor investment into your yoga practice.

While you're practicing asana, try to bring your awareness to your spine. Feel the twists. Feel where you're bending. Feel it lengthen or compress. Breathe your prana into it, energizing up it. Even bring your spine into your meditation. And even into your full daily life - stand and sit up straight.

A daily yoga practice will help you create a healthy spine, creating a healthy body and mind. Try to get on your mat every morning, even if just for 15 minutes. Do a few twists, forward folds and a nice, yummy shoulder stand. While working the spine, try to lengthen, not curve, bending at the joints, not in your back. Adjust your gaze so that your neck is a long extension of your spine rather than bending to look down.

You get what you give. With committment and love for your practice, you'll notice amazing results. Just get on that mat!
