Short Statured People of Australia - NSW & ACT Branch We've got quite a few activities coming up in the months ahead, so we're hoping you'll find something you like and come along and be a part of the event.
Each of these events takes some planning, most of which happens at our meetings. Unfortunately, meeting participation has been very low lately. We'd really appreciate it if more members came along, even if it's just to one meeting per year! If you're interested in helping out, please come along to a meeting in the near future.

This year will see the SSPA host its 15th Annual National Sporting Weekend in Albury. This weekend was originally introduced in 1995 to provide opportunities for people with short stature to play competitive sport against others like themselves. It began with the State of Origin match between the NSW and Victorian basketball teams and has since progressed into a weekend which provides competitive sporting opportunities for all who attended. Since 1995, Leanne Wegner has coordinated the organisation of this wonderful event and we thank her for all of her time and effort. The weekend has grown from strength to strength and has turned itself into a mini-convention with on average, 80 people in attendance. 2010 will see some new sports on the agenda including boccia and badminton, and it will hopefully see the return of the State of Origin basketball match between Victoria and NSW as they take each other on for the Rosemary Hobbs Trophy. As usual, we will be staying at the Lake Hume Resort: www.lakehumeresort.com.au/accomm/accommodation-albury.htm Please make your own accommodation booking by contacting the Resort via the above web link or on free call on 1800 021 929. Accommodation options range from motel rooms to cottages to villas to spa studios and suit every budget – plus if you mention that you’re with the SSPA, you’ll receive a 10% discount. Please make sure that you inform Meredith Tripp (Victorian Branch Secretary) once you have made your booking. Bookings need to be made ASAP as the Resort is booking up fast! Medical Symposium Professor David Sillence from Westmead Children’s Hospital is proposing a Short Stature Symposium at the hospital, possibly in August. We will provide more information in the SSPA Journal and on the NSW Branch Website in the near future. |
