The Airgun Attraction
As the cost of firearm ammunition continues rise, so does the popularity of airguns for both recreation and small game hunting or pest control. Higher velocity air rifles, or "Magnum air rifles" like the Walther Talon Magnum are attractive to those looking for speed. These recreation or sporting air rifles are mostly used for plinking or paper target shooting, although shooters that acquire great accuracy with their .177 caliber magnum air rifles do use them for small pest control.

Choosing an Air Gun Pellet Choosing an Air Gun Pellet
There are several different airgun pellet styles available to use with your air gun and each rifle is unique in that every one has an "ideal pellet" for a accuracy and/or speed. Your desired result will dictate what kind of air rifle pellet you'll want to use. Airgun pellet weight is important because it can affect velocity, trajectory, impact strength, and flight stability.

The Gunsmith Bench
Shooting a magnum spring powered air rifle is much different than shooting a .22 rim-fire or .308 center-fire rifle. It takes practice and patience to master shooting a spring piston rifle. Some have said that a better marksman will result when a person begins in the shooting sports with a spring powered air rifle and then moves to a firearm, as opposed to starting first with a rim- or center-fire. This is due to the fact that unlike a firearm, an air rifle has two specific recoils.

Gun Safety Product Spotlight
"Engage your brain before touching any type of gun."
ALWAYS keep the gun pointed in a safe direction. THIS is the PRIMARY rule of gun safety. A safe direction means that the gun is pointed so that even if it were to go off it would not cause injury or damage.

Think about what the projectile might hit if the gun were to go off. The key to this rule is to control where the muzzle or front end of the barrel is pointed at all times.
