Welcome to the 6th edition of “The Piper”, our regular update from the Highlander Motor Inn.


GOURMET MEALS TO GUEST ROOMS NOW AVAILABLE

After the demise of the Highland Fling Restaurant (a completely separate business from ours) in early September, we reinstated the original kitchen at the motel by bringing it up to a full, Council approved, commercial kitchen. This partly involved installing a large commercial fridge/freezer, a 900 wide commercial oven/stove top, and one almighty exhaust fan which towers above the roof-line.

Knowing that food can be so important to guests, we decided to think outside the square. The result is that we have secured the services of Matt Golinski (of TVs Ready Steady Cook fame) and his team, to provide recipes and meals, which we are now delivering to our guests in their rooms at the motel. A survey we conducted suggested that some 80% of guests would prefer to have meals in their rooms rather than eat in a dining area – let’s face it – not too many of us like to eat alone in public.

Over the years, Matt has been a much sought after Chef in various restaurants in Queensland, particularly in the Noosa area where for 6 years he headed the team at “Ricky Ricardo’s” on the water at Quamby Place, now Ricky’s Bar & Grill. Matt and his team now run a catering business out of Noosa.

The response to the meals has been fantastic. From the Chicken and Corn Chowder soup with small bread roll for a light snack, through to the Coq au Vin (Chicken in red wine) or Shepherd’s Pie for something heartier, we have received nothing but rave reviews.

We have not forgotten the local providores either with our 500gm aged, tenderstretch T-Bone and 400gm Rump or Rib fillet (done to your liking) being supplied by Westridge Meats (one of Toowoomba’s leading butchers) and Tony and Luke from the Westridge Fruit and Vegetable Markets providing the freshest of local fruit and veg. Rather than the ubiquitous chips which most restaurants provide with their meals, we have opted to serve a fantastic potato bake with our steaks.

Nevertheless, if there is something in particular you would like to see added to the Menu, just mention it to Morag at Reception and we’ll see what we can do.

So next time you stay with us be sure to order your in-house evening dining experience from the extensive Menu available – a true gourmet’s delight.

MOTEL REVAMP CONTINUES

Since our last newsletter we have replaced:

  • ALL of the old box style air conditioners with reverse cycle split system units.
  • ALL bedspreads and curtains
  • ALL of the Queen and King Beds in the apartments with premium quality Pillow Top, Pocket Coil ensembles
  • ALL of the King Beds in the motel with premium quality Pillow Top, Pocket Coil ensembles
  • ALL of the Queen Beds in the executive spa rooms with premium quality Pocket Coil ensembles
  • The full sized lounges (sofa beds) in the standard motel rooms
As always, we will continue to make improvements to the motel as and when we can.
