Huzzah to Past Contributors!

Brick 86Two Brick 86 contributors have come up big: poet Ann Scowcroft's book The Truth of Houses won the Concordia University First Book Prize, and Charles Foran received the Canadian non-fiction triple-crown with a Governor General's Literary Award to add to Talyor & Weston prizes he has already won for his biography Mordecai: The Life and Times.

Brick 80Kudos also to Carmen Aguirre, whose book Something Fierce: Memoirs of a Revolutionary Daughter (an early excerpt of which first appeared in Brick 80) was just selected as a Canada Reads finalist. Huzzah!

Brick 88Brick 88 contributor Fred Wah has been appointed Canada's fifth Parliamentary Poet Laureate. A voice of the myriad histories of this country, Wah is the author of Diamond Grill, Waiting for Saskatchewan, and, most recently, is a door. Congratulations to him on his new post.

Mac's Fireweed Books, an institution on Whitehorse's main drag, might just be the best bookstore north of 60 (it's the only one that carries Brick, after all). Manager Natalie Sumner let us pick her brain about the store, famous writers coming back from the dead, and what Yukon's reading. Check out our interview with Mac's Fireweed Books right here.

From the Archive: Brick 65/66

Brick 65/66Brick's wayback machine travels to the year 2000 to present an issue chock-full of wonderments:
Jeffrey Eugenides on John Hawkes
Robert Bringhurst translates the great Ghandl
Harold Weber's Shrimp Étouffée recipe
Russell Banks's experience with depression

Brick 65/66 is certainly one worth owning, don't you think?
