Electronic Prescription Compliance Affects Medicare Payments

CMS has released information regarding the Electronic Prescriptions program for 2011. If you are an Eligible Professional, you are required to report 10 instances of electronic prescribing before June 30, 2011. If a physician chooses not to use and report electronic prescribing, the physician will only receive 99% of their Part B physician fee schedule starting in 2012. The percentages will continue to decrease each year if the physician is not in compliance with the use of Electronic Prescriptions. Please make sure your office is aware of the requirements. You can see the latest information by clicking here or visiting the CMS https://www.cms.gov/ERXIncentive/.

EHR Incentive Program Progress

The EHR Incentive program officially began January 3, 2011.  Since then over 21,000 providers have registered for the Medicare and Medicaid incentive programs.  CMS is recommending all eligible providers register for the program even if they are not ready to begin using an EHR or meeting meaningful use. Medicaid has already paid $2.7 Million in incentives this year, and Medicare incentive payments will begin May 2011. Don't delay in working towards you or your doctor's incentive payment which could be up to $44,000 or $63,750 per provider!
