WINTER'S BONE | Landmark Midtown Art Cinema

Winter's BoneWinter's Bone presents a kind of quest through the criminal underworld, like a classic hard-boiled detective story, but one grounded in a documentary-style approach to life in this corner of America. - Curt Holman, Creative Loafing Atlanta

THE SQUARE

The SquareWhat's to be admired is how fearlessly Edgerton embraces the dirt and grime oozing out of "The Square," manufacturing the guilt that's produced when information is withheld, when lies are tossed around, and when the best laid plans go awry. - Sean O'Connell, Hollywoodnews.com

Screening: ENTER THE DRAGON
Tuesday, September 7, 8 and 10

Enter the DragonThe last film completed by Bruce Lee before his untimely death, Enter the Dragon was his entrée into Hollywood. The American-Hong Kong coproduction, shot in Asia by American director Robert Clouse, stars Lee as a British agent sent to infiltrate the criminal empire of bloodthirsty Asian crime lord Han (Shih Kien) through his annual international martial arts tournament. Lee spends his days taking on tournament combatants and nights breaking into the heavily guarded underground fortress, kicking the living tar out of anyone who stands in his way. The mix of kung fu fighting (choreographed by Lee himself) and James Bond intrigue (the plot has more than a passing resemblance to Dr. No) is pulpy by any standard, but the generous budget and talented cast of world-class martial artists puts this film in a category well above Lee's earlier Hong Kong productions.

Screening: FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS (Indie Memphis 2009)
Friday, September 3
The Plaza

Funeral ArrangemensDrew (Mr. Deejae), an aspiring producer, is fresh out of college with a degree in Music, but only a dead-end general labor job to show for it. His cousin Lance (Anwar Jamison), a hustler-type from Drew's hometown, arranges the opportunity that Drew has been seeking: an all-access, VIP night with some of the biggest movers and shakers in the music industry. However, there are two things standing in the way of Drew's dream evening: his company's attendance policy, which won't allow him to miss work, and his overbearing, insensitive, military-minded supervisor, Sarge (David Caffey), who is determined to uphold that policy. After telling his boss that he has to attend a funeral to avoid work, Drew finds himself caught up in a hilarious adventure that brings him closer to both love and death!

Weekly Film Quote

Wesley: We have to be back on the road the day after the revival. Otherwise your career is going to be deader than C+C Music Factory.
David Taylor: Who?
Wesley: My point exactly.
