Summer's Just Around the Corner
June 21st marks the official beginning of summer! Here are a couple of ways to keep cool this summer using Chinese Food Therapy: - Watermelon - Enjoy the nummy-seed-spitting goodness of the red flesh, but don't ignore the greenish, white flesh between the red and the green peel. This is the part of the watermelon that is best for staving off what Chinese medicine refers to as "Summer Heat" (heat exhaustion).
- Cucumber - Another cooling snack that will help us avoid getting too over-heated this summer!
- Avoid Ice-cold Drinks - I know, sometimes it's so tempting to toss some ice into your favorite summer-time drink for a little extra cooling power, but try to avoid it! The extra cold ice weakens your body's ability to properly digest foods and keep your body cool!
